Winners

Southern States is pleased to honor our equine customers who have recently won in competitions. Congratulations to all our Winners!

Legends customer, Eric Fabian of New York, recently roped at the National Team Roping League, National Finals in Jacksonville, Florida. Eric came in 4th in the #9 Preliminary Roping with Duane Yost (from PA). He also came in 8th in the #10 Shoot Out with Darren Morgan (from GA). Eric ropes on three horses, Buddy, Sir Jetta Winsor and Hope's Ricochet.

Congratulations go out to Cismont Manor Farm in Keswick, Virginia. They had three circuit championships on the HITS Ocala winter circuit. Legend was HITS Ocala Circuit Champion in the First Year Greens with Hunt Tosh in the irons, while Cismont's flashy gelding Point Guard was circuit champion in the Adult Amateurs 36-45 with Robin Swinderman. Rounding out the circuit championships for Cismont was Bozeman in the Green Conformations also for Hunt Tosh.

Lucy Rutter of Chesapeake, Virginia, also had a great winter. She and her bay gelding, Gallagher, were Gulfport Circuit Champions in the Older Amateur Owners.

Betty Oare of Warrenton, Virginia, earned the same title on the HITS Ocala Winter Circuit on L'Alezon.

Virginia Horse Council President - Sally LambSouthern States customer Sally Lamb was inducted as the President of the Virginia Horse Council on March 15th. Lamb (left), of Gordonsville (VA) will do a terrific job.

Congratulations to Sarah Owens and her mare Shakira Do Jacare Sarah Owens and Shakira on their recent successes at the Aiken (SC) Spring Horse Shows in the jumpers. Sarah (right) is a customer of the Hendersonville (NC) Southern States.

The Spring Steeplechasing Season has started up in Virginia. With Steeplechasing comes Pair Racing. Orange Madison Co-op (VA) customer, Gene Gartner is no stranger to winning the Pair Races at the spring meets. He has started 2008 off with a bang. On March 2nd, he and his partner Mary Potter won the Optimum Time Over Fences at the Casanova Hunter Pace in Vint Hill, VA. Gene was aboard his 17-yr-old Thoroughbred gelding, CatchTheSpirit, for the win.

The 2007 Appaloosa Champion Endurance Horse was raised on Reliance Horse Feeds. Nick Irianni and LRF Lakota Wemima (Full Moon of the Sioux) competed in September in the National contest in Tennessee and was awarded First Place Finisher,  Best Conditioned Horse and First Place Youth Rider.  Nick is from Frederick County, Virginia. Congratulations to Nick! 

Three cheers for Liza Boyd who won the $40,000 AHJF Hunter Spectacular in Wellington, on February 23rd. She was aboard Fiyero for the victory.

In Ocala on the same weekend, Southern States customer Zan Martin Dillon was reserve champion in the Adult Amateurs on Just Sam. North Caroline resident, Sarah Owen, also had a great weekend in Ocala. She was 4th in the Children's Jumper Classic out of 38 on She Can Dance and she was first out of 35 in a Modified Junior Jumper class on Shakira Do Jacare.

Several Southern States customers were winners at the Raleigh Indoor Winter II show the last full week of February. Kathy Bennett, Hampden Row, Breckenridge Manor, Winn Alden Equestrian all brought home championship ribbons.

Betty OareTop show barns from across the Southern States territory are having a fabulous winter in Florida. Windsor Farms (Alexa Weeks) and Summerfield (Tommy Serio) are having great success at the Winter Equestrian Festival, as are Triple Crown users - Louise Serio, Nona Garson, Liza Towell Boyd and Margie Engle. Three hours north of Wellington in Ocala - EMO Stables (Ernie and Betty Oare) and Cismont Manor Farm (The Wheeler Family) are collecting their fair share of championships.

Congratulations to the Wheeler Family of Spotsylvania (VA) on their recentHeather (standing) and Madison Wheeler on Integrity's Lilith achievements with their horse Integrity's Lilith. Lilith, an 8-yr-old who dines on Triple Crown Senior, has won many accolades with the Virginia Arabian Horse Association. Among those awards are 2007 High Point Horse of the Year, Open Halter Champion, Senior Western Pleasure Champion, Walk/Trot 12 & under Champion and Overall Amateur Champion. The Wheelers purchase their feed from Snow Hill Farm LLC.

Lewisburg, WV resident and Southern States customer, Rachel Johnson and her 9-yr-old gelding, Casberlena, won the $100,000 Non-Pro Any Age Finals at the Augusta (GA) Cutting Horse Futurity on January 24th. Rachel won at Augusta 5 years ago on her mare, Finally Got Smart.

Southern States' feed rep, Lee Buckner, was 2nd at a team roping in late January at the Yankeetown Arena in Indiana. Lee rode his heading horse, Smokin Banty Bars, to his successes. Also in the team roping pen,  New York customer Eric Fabian finished third overall in the NTRL Arena Finals. Eric is also a header.

Lauren Hartburg and Susies Top PriorityCharlottesville Southern States customer Lauren Hartburg won the 2007-2008 American Buckskin Registry Association National Youth Representative Contest. This is similiar to other breed associations' Queen contests. Lauren competes at many shows on her mare Susies Top Priority.

Kyle King, now based in Ocala, FL, riding a mare named Finnete won the Lucky Sevens Open Welcome Jumper Classic at Jacksonville (FL) on January 24th. Southern States-fed barn, Winn Alden Equestrian, is also raking in the wins during the Jacksonville Winter Series with such horses as Heritage, Sunny Banks and Matchplay.

While some barns are heading south for the winter, others are staying home in the Mid-Atlantic and doing their own fair share of winning. Nick Alberti, Hampden Row, Hannah Spiegler, Breckenridge Manor, Lohman Stables, Lizzie Roberts and Showplace Farm all had a very successful show at Stonewall Country I at the Virginia Horse Center the last week of January.

Caorl Merritt and Leavinem SpeechlessLeavinem Speechless (Ozzy) and Carol Merritt out of Raleigh, NC (customers of the Creedmoor Southern States) had a wonderful trip to the 2007 All American Quarter Horse Congress back in October, making the finals in the Novice Amateur Hunter Under Saddle placing 5th in the Novice Adult Hunt Seat Equitation.
